Eli was my great grandfather. He married Isabella Maidment, a girl from the village of Woodlands. In fact, she was a Cutler, the daughter of Samuel and his wife Keziah, but she was born about six months before her parents' marriage in Horton. I should point out here that this situation was far from uncommon at that time. Couples with every intention of marrying often did so only when events made it essential! On many occasions you will find that the first child of a family was born just a few months after the marriage.
To improve his standard of living, Eli eventually moved from Verwood to Pokesdown and is buried in the
graveyard near St James Church there.
