The Cranborne Lockyers

Mark Lockyer

Mark married Mary Ann, the eldest child of Stephen Morgan and his wife Susanna. It was a long and successful marriage, which produced fourteen children, listed below. Interestingly, Mary Ann's family can also be traced back to the village of Edmondsham (John and Elizabeth Morgan, m. Abt 1726).

The couple lived and farmed for a long time at Newman's Farm in West Moors (now Newman's Farm South). The old thatched farm building was demolished a few years ago but, until recently, the property was occupied by a member of the Morgan family. The farm must be very old, for small Tudor bricks were found during the demolition of the house.

Mark did not stay at Newman's Farm for, in the 1881 census, he is recorded to be living at Turnpike, Fontmell Magna, which was a 496 acre farm.

Eventually, Mark and Mary Ann retired to Wimborne where, in 1913, Mark died. Mary Ann lived for another thirteen years before passing away, aged 85, at 1 Providence Villa. I have been unable to locate this property and would welcome feedback regarding its location, if it still stands.
